The Missing Thread - Somerset House
I went with my sister M to see the exhibition, The Missing Thread at Somerset House. This show was a tribute to Black British Fashion Designers although mainly focusing on those designers who came to prominence in the 1980s and 90s. Really pleased to see ta dress by Ninivah Khomo a designer who never in my view got the attention she deserved compared to Bruce Oldfield. Because of Ninivah I love animal prints. There were some early contextual references but no contemporary designers. The show case was the work of the late Joe Casely-Hayford which was stunning. Hayford died in 2019. He was an underrated designer and he deserves a show on his own of his work. I wish there had been more fashion but it is not easy getting access to clothes in the first place.
M and I spent a lovely afternoon talking about clothes and how we wished we had learned to sew properly.
Clothes by Joe Casely-Hayford.
